My impression is that Gensokyo is only one of many non-earth-spaces in the world - after all, neither Makai nor Higan/Hakugyokurou are part of it, though they're connected. There could be many others that are loosely connected or bordering it in some way, and not all of them would be Asian. It seems a reasonable assumption that, perhaps, other lands have also split off into non-earth-spaces for the same reasons that Gensokyo broke from Japan, so there could easily be connections with, let's say, an Irish gensokyo, Russian gensokyo, Haitian gensokyo, or regions that are some kind of mashup between various different cultures and mythic traditions.
